Helen “Amy” Szombati (nee Repko), 88, of Lorain, died Sunday April 9, 2017 at StoryPoint of Avon Lake after a long illness.

She was born September 29, 1928 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Amy graduated from Lorain High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

She was a charter member of the original St. John Catholic Church on Clinton Avenue in Lorain and a current member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain.

Amy enjoyed yoga, bowling, walking and gardening.  She was a great mother and grandmother to her family.

She is survived by her children David Szombati and Lori Jones, both of Lorain; grandchildren Christopher Vidovich of Seminole, Florida and Dana Ceja of Lorain; great grandsons Donovan and Vincent Ceja and sister Catherine “Kate” Kalo of Lorain.  She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. Szombati on July 3, 1999, parents Andrew & Bertha Repko (nee Endrizal) and sister Marybelle Hyde.

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Wednesday April 12th from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.   Funeral services will begin Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 pm at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain.  The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
