Thomas J. Judge, age 81, of Avon Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on the afternoon of Wednesday June 7, 2017. He was born in Lorain on August 16, 1935 and had been a resident of Avon Lake for the past four years; Tom had previously been a resident of Vermilion.

A graduate of Townsend High School, he went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955 attaining the rank of Corporal; he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Tom was employed as a supervisor at Ford Motor Company’s Engine Plant # 2  in Brookpark for more than four decades. In his younger days he worked at Vermilion on the Lake as well as Crystal Beach. It was there that he met his wife, Mary Lou.

Mr. Judge was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake. Tom enjoyed living on the lake both here in Ohio as well as at his seasonal residence in Florida. He was an avid reader who possessed a special interest for military and presidential biographies. In addition, he liked travel, league bowling, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters Tammy Nally (John Obray) of Providence, Utah, and Cindy Schaffer (Richard, Sr.) of Sheffield Lake, grandchildren  Richard Schaffer, Jr. (Sarah), Thomas Schaffer (Bianca), Alexis Stout (David), and Kara Nally, along with great grandchildren Reagan, Aiden, Camden, Mackenzie, and Thomas. Tom also leaves his brother Patrick Judge (Nancy) residing in Brunswick.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou (nee Dimitroff) in January of 2017, by his parents Francis and Loretta (nee Embse) Judge, and by brothers James, William, Donald, Daniel, Norman, & Robert.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Thursday June 15th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday June 16th beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church – 715 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake. Reverend Stephen L. Shields, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
