Paul G. Stavesky, Jr., age 69, of Lorain, passed away on the evening of Sunday June 25, 2017 while a resident of the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home. Born in Lorain on December 12, 1947, Paul was a graduate of Lorain High School.

Following his graduation, Mr. Stavesky enlisted in the United States Navy and fulfilled duty assignments while attached to Helicopter Attack Squadron 3 during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Merit Honor Medal. He was a member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the V.F.W. in Lorain as well as Amvets Post # 22 of Vermilion.

Upon his return from military service, Paul joined the United States Steel Corporation where he was most recently employed as a mechanic in the Casting Mill. He retired in 2000 following a career that spanned thirty-two years with the steel producer.

Paul had also received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lorain County Community College. He worked as a part-time police officer for the City of Vermilion and the Village of South Amherst and served as a Lieutenant on the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary as well.

Mr. Stavesky was a member of the American Slovak Club, and the former Polish-American Citizen’s Club both of Lorain.

Paul is survived by his sons Mark (Angie) Stavesky of Lorain and Brian (Brenda) Stavesky of Groton, Connecticut. He also leaves six grandchildren along with sisters Patricia (Joseph) Turza of Bullard, Texas, Kathleen (James) Bucci of Avon, and brothers John W. (Linda) Stavesky of Hubert, North Carolina, and William (Paula) Stavesky of Tamarac, Florida.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ida (nee Vargo) Stavesky as well as by a brother in infancy.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, - 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services for Paul’s cremated remains will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in Calvary Cemetery – 555 North Ridge Road, Lorain. (Please meet at the cemetery) Military honors will be provided by Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
