Helen M. Pozega (nee Kovacevich), 98, of Lorain, died Friday September 22, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.

She was born August 7, 1919 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Helen graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1937 B.  She worked as a secretary in the Engineering Department of Thew Shovel/Koehring Division for 27 years retiring in 1976.

She was a wonderful lady who enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles and was always ready and happy to lend a helping hand to her many relatives and friends.  She was an inspiration to many lives.

Helen was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews who were also her caregivers: Patricia Witkowski (Robert), Bernie Jankowski (Mary Ellen) and Kathleen Pudelski and many other nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Pozega in 1992, parents Peter & Catherine Kovacevich, Sr (nee Canjar); sisters: Katherine Dusa in 2003, Ann M. Ribaric in 1994, Mary Pavlich in 2001 and Betty Jankowski in 1948; brothers: Peter Kovacevich, Jr in 1987 and John Kovacevich in 1996.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy New Life Hospice for the care that their Aunt Helen received during her stay.

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Tuesday September 26th from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 27th at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain.  The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
