Julia “Jay” Klekota, (nee Demchik), age 102, of Lorain, passed away at Kingston of Vermilion on the evening of Monday November 6, 2017. Born in Lorain on January 31, 1915, Jay lived in Lorain County for the majority of her life but also maintained residency in Cleveland and Las Vegas.; she was a 1935-A graduate of Lorain High School.


She was employed as an assembler at Lorain Products and retired in 1980 following a career that spanned eighteen years with the manufacturer.


Jay was an active parishioner of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where she was involved with the Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Ladies Guild. She was currently attending Nativity BVM Catholic Church.


She was once crowned Paczki Queen at Kiedrowski’s Annual Lenten Paczki Ball and attributed her longevity to eating weekly fish fries from the American Slovak Club.


In her free time Jay enjoyed dancing and working with ceramics.


Survivors include her son Dale R. Klekota and wife Carol, residing in Cleveland and Las Vegas, along with grandsons Justin D. Klekota of Seattle, Washington and Jaret R. Klekota (Aristia) of Avon Lake, and great grandson Griffin Theodore Klekota.


Mrs. Klekota was preceded in death by her husband Theodore in 2007, her parents George and Anna (nee Stefanisin) Demchik. brother George Demchik, sisters Vera Gorski, Helen Demchik, Mary Salasovich, Anna Sotak, Susan Zadorozny, Margaret Maslinsky, Elsie Guba, and Julia and Clara in infancy

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Nativity BVM Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue. Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
