Betty J. Childers, (nee Poling), age 79, of Lorain, passed away on Thursday December 14, 2017. She was born in Philippi, West Virginia on April 19, 1938 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1957.

Betty had most recently been employed as a stock clerk at the Hills Department Store in Amherst; previously, she had worked as a waitress at the Harvest House Cafeteria located in the Woolworth’s Store at Midway Mall.

Betty was devoted to her family. In her free time she enjoyed trap shooting and participating in turkey shoots. Other interests included solving jigsaw and word search puzzles, reading, bingo, and both flower and vegetable gardening.

Survivors include her husband of nearly sixty-three years Clyde Carroll Childers, daughter Debra Jean Childers of Lorain, and son Michael Lee Childers also of Lorain. She also leaves grandchildren Misty Dawn Alvarez (Roberto) of Lorain, Savanna Sue Davis of Lorain, Stephen E. Weimer of Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and Travis Leon Carroll Fields of Coshocton, great grandchildren Aaron Avie Davis, Liam Jasper Davis, and Adriane Leone Weimer, sister Shirley Poling Shockey residing in Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ersel and Juanita Grace (nee Simpson) Poling,

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Tuesday December 19th from 12:00 noon until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend James Justice will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
