Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Clyde W. Fulton, 101, of Lorain, died peacefully on Friday December 22, 2017 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain.

He was born December 5, 1916 in Patchinville, PA.  to the late Clyde E. Fulton and the late Leticia Fulton (nee Wright).  Clyde had two sisters, Margaret Solley (nee Fulton) and Mary Decker (nee Fulton) and one brother Ralph Fulton who are all deceased.

Clyde graduated from Cherry Tree Area High School in 1934, a significant achievement for a person from that area of Pennsylvania in his time.  Because of the Great Depression, paying jobs were hard to find.   Clyde, like many young men of his generation, went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) rebuilding local parks, dams and other local infrastructure.  He served with the US Army in the 9th Armored Division from 1941 to 1945 serving in combat in World War II in Europe and the Pacific.  Clyde was a decorated hero with a Purple Heart having been wounded in France and spent three months in a hospital in France recuperating from his wounds.

Clyde was preceded in death by his first wife LaRue “Rudy” McCracken whom he married in 1941 before he left to go to war.  Clyde and Rudy had three children, June Rimmey (James, deceased) of State College, PA, Karen Anderson (Fred, deceased) of Woodbury CT and Kirk Fulton (Cindy) of Rochester NY.  Clyde is also survived by Joan Bouch (nee Solley), niece, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The Fulton family lived in Mahaffey, PA until 1951, when they moved to Punxsutawney, PA where Clyde sold insurance for the Knight’s Life Insurance Co.

Clyde and Rudy divorced in 1962 after which Clyde moved to Lorain OH where he worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a security guard for several years.  After working at the hospital, Clyde worked for The Nordson Corporation as an engineering technician until his retirement.

Clyde married Mary Kacher, his second wife in 1972 to become the stepfather to Natalie Findish (George), Ernest Kacher (Detna, deceased) and Albert Kacher (Lynne).  Clyde and Mary were avid and skilled gardeners, raising and preserving a large variety of fruits and vegetables from small suburban garden plots much to the admiration of their families and friends.   He also enjoyed golfing and woodworking and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain and the church Men’s Club.

Mary, Clyde’s lovely, loving and devoted wife passed away in 2011.  After Mary’s passing, Clyde lived in assisted living with the support of wonderful caregivers sponsored by the Veteran’s Administration in Lorain.  Clyde’s family is especially grateful to Mary Turner, a VA caregiver who supported Clyde with much love and care in his final years, even after her official duties were concluded.
