Margaret M. “Peggy” White, (nee Franklin), age 85, of Lorain, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of Monday January 1, 2018 with her loving husband at her side. Peggy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1932 and attended St. Raphael’s School in West Philadelphia. Her family later moved to Audubon, New Jersey where she attended Camden Catholic High School graduating in 1950. She subsequently enrolled in St. Agnes Hospital’s School of Nursing from which she graduated in 1953 with certification as a Registered Nurse.

Peggy met the love of her life and married James White on November 26, 1955.

From 1956 to 1970 she was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. She later worked as a school nurse for the Lorain City Schools at Homewood School from 1985 until 1993.

She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and volunteered time with both the Indian Guides and the Girl Scouts as well. Peggy was also proud to be a Southview Band parent for her children. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, dancing, knitting, and crocheting. She was well known for her generosity in sharing her needlecraft with friends as well as donating crocheted items to Birthright of Lorain County for charitable fund raisers.

Peggy was devout in her faith and was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain. An active member of its Altar & Rosary Society, she had also previously served as an altar server at both St. John Roman Catholic Church and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Jim,  son James Michael White (Anne) of Southaven, Mississippi,  and daughters Kathleen M. White of Jurupa Valley, California, and Lauretta Fagan (Patrick) of Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, she leaves grandchildren Michael, Kimberly, Matthew, and Patrick along with her brother Thomas Franklin (Imogene) residing in Florida..

Peggy was preceded in death by her son Paul in infancy, and parents Thomas and Catherine (nee McGreal) Franklin.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Friday January 5th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The St. Frances Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary there at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish – 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain
