Mary D. Burtze, (nee Pirc), age 94, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph with her two daughters at her side on the afternoon of Friday January 19, 2018. She was born in Lorain on July 21, 1923 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

Mary was formerly employed as an assembler at Lorain Products; she retired in 1985 following a career that spanned sixteen years with the manufacturer.

She was a long-time parishioner of the former Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church and was currently attending St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish.

An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Mary enjoyed gardening and casino gambling in her free time.

She is survived by daughters Dianne Green and Carolyn Cantrell both of Lorain and daughter-in-law Diane Burtze of Grafton.. Mary also leaves five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Burtze, son David Burtze, two grandchildren, father Anthony Pirc, mother Mary Yemc (nee Logar), brother Anthony, along with two additional brothers who resided in Europe..

Funeral Schedule

Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish – 2143 Homewood Drive. Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
