Helen R. Karam (nee Hendrick), 93, of Trinity, Florida and formerly of Sheffield Township, was called to heaven Thursday February 15,2018 at her Grandsons home in Trinity, Florida.

Helen was born September 28, 1924 in Lorain, Ohio.  She graduated from Clearview High school. She was married to the love of her life Robert “Bob” Karam who preceded her in death in 2010.

Helen was a founding member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in ElyriaTownship and was very active in the church throughout her life. She was a past president and life member of the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered for many church functions and events such as bingo and preparing care packages for troops overseas. She enjoyed cooking for the church and family.

During World War II, Helen worked at US Steel in Lorain making steel for the war effort. Helen was a volunteer for New Life Hospice in Lorain for 25 years before retiring at the age of 89.  She enjoyed travels to Las Vegas and Florida many times and London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome and, her most proud destination, The Vatican.

Helen moved in with her grandson Todd and his family in 2016. She passed away surrounded by her grandchildren whom she loved and loved her the most. She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Margaret Hendrick (nee Fox), brother Corporal Michael Hendrick in 1943 and her husband John R. "Bob" Karam. She is survived by grandchildren Todd Kroucik(Cher)of Trinity Fl., Keri Lynch (Paul)of New Port Richey Fl, Lori Pielak of New Port Richey Fl & Mark Kroucik of Holiday Fl; great grandchildren, Corey, Colin, Raegan, and Carter Lynch and Alexander Pielak and great great grandchild Parker Pielak, daughter Diadra Kiser and stepson John Karam (Nancy).

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Tuesday February 27th from 2:00-5:00 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 28th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria.  The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
