Gluvna Shimo Hromada

John J. Czompoly, Sr., age 74, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at the Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph on the evening of Wednesday February 21, 2018. John was born in Lorain on March 7, 1943 and remained a life-long resident of the city; he was a graduate of the American School.

Mr. Czompoly was employed as a Maintenance “A” Man at Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company’s Avon Lake Plant; he retired in 1993 following a career that spanned twenty-seven years with the power company. He was previously employed by the American Shipbuilding Company (Lorain) as well as Cromco Burial Vault (Elyria).

A parishioner of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, John enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, and tinkering with automobiles in his free time.

He leaves his wife of fifty-five years Marguerite (nee Mate), and sons Michael (Elizabeth) of Lorain, John Czompoly, Jr. of Lima, and Jeffrey (Elizabeth Kildow) of Vermilion. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and his brother Nickolas Czompoly of Lorain.

John was preceded in death by his father Nickolas Czompoly, mother Mary Czompoly-Ksiazk (nee Dobis), and granddaughter Samantha Czompoly.
