Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Vera A. Darmafall (nee Zaro), age 75, of Nova, and formerly of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her residence on the Morning of Monday March 5, 2018 while under the care of the Hospice of North Central Ohio. Born in Cleveland on June 30, 1942, Vera spent the majority of her life as a resident of Lorain prior to relocating to Nova in 1999.

She was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University. Vera was a dedicated educator who most recently served as the Principal at St. Mary's Parochial School in Mansfield; she had previously served as Principal at St. John the Baptist Parish School in Lorain.

At the time of her passing, Mrs. Darmafall was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Church where she was active with the choir. While residing in Lorain, she attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where she served as both a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Vera was also a member of the St. Stanislaus Ladies Guild as well as being active with both the adult and youth choirs there.

In her free time she enjoyed collecting Amish baskets and all forms of Santa Claus memorabilia. In addition, she was an avid fan of professional baseball, football, and basketball, the Ohio State University, and the Sinclair University Baseball program.

She is survived by sons Joseph of Nova, and Michael (fiancee Joyce Johnson) of Lorain. Vera also leaves grandchildren Matthew, Jeremy, Zachary, Sean, and Michael, great grandchildren Brayden and Emersyn, and her beloved fur babies Pepper and Lucy Fur.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Darmafall in 2011, son Frank in 2012, father John Zaro in 1980, and mother Mary Zaro (nee Kokinda) in 1966.

Funeral Schedule

Friends may call on Friday March 9th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish - 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Reverend Ronald Bryda, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
