With the deepest regret we announce the death of our father, Edward Marvin Zezlina, on

April 16, 2018, at 67 years of age. He was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on August 10, 1950 to Frederick Zezlina, Sr. and Lempi Zezlina (nee Mattila) of Lorain Ohio. He had lived in Lorain and was a 1969 graduate of Lorain High School.

Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman and shortly thereafter went to Vietnam where he served in N Company, 75th Infantry Regiment conducting Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) missions. His previous duty stations included Fort Knox, KY, Fort Gordon, GA, Fort Benning, GA, Germany and Fort Campbell, KY. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, and the Airborne Wings and Weapons Qualification Badge – Expert.

He left the Army in 1972 and began working for the U.S. Steel Plant in Lorain, Ohio from which he retired in 2016.

Edward M. Zezlina had a passion for flying. He was an avid pilot since 1976 who had logged thousands of hours in making numerous flights to a multitude of destinations throughout his lifetime. He acquired private pilot and commercial pilot licenses, as well as an Instrument Flight Recognition Rating and a Visual Flight Recognition Rating. He passed away doing what he loved with the love of his life, Linda O’Brien.

He was an active member of the 75th Ranger Regiment Association.

Survivors include sisters Pauline Zezlina-Canaday and Sandra Gray, sons, Edward M. Zezlina, Daniel P. Zezlina, and Kevin A. Zezlina, daughter Kari L. Zezlina, granddaughter Madison J. Zezlina, and grandsons Jakob M. Zezlina, and Lukas M. Zezlina.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother Frederick “Sonny” Zezlina, Jr.

Funeral Schedule

Friends may call Sunday April 29th from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 on Monday April 30th in the funeral chapel. Deacon John Slatcoff, representing St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where military honors will be conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria.
