Eugene V. “Gene” D’Innocente, age 92, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at St. Mary of the Woods on the afternoon of Wednesday August 15, 2018. Gene was born in Lorain on December 15, 1925 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

He was a 1944-A graduate of Lorain High School. Three days after his graduation, he was drafted into the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments as an Aviation Electronic Technician’s Mate Third Class assigned to Utility Squadron Sixteen. Upon his return from the military, Gene enrolled at Ohio Northern University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering there in 1951.

Mr. D’Innocente had been employed as the Cleveland Area District Manager for Industrial Commercial Sales at Shell Oil Company for thirty-five years; he retired from that position in 1987.

Gene was a parishioner of St. Peter Parish in Lorain. In addition, he was a member of Italian-American Veterans Post # 1 in Lorain, as well as the Lorain Senior Fellowship, and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

In his free time, he enjoyed golf, league bowling, and spending time with his family and friends

Survivors include sons Michael P. D’Innocente (Carol Grape) of Littleton, Colorado and David H. D’Innocente. He also leaves granddaughter Danielle D’Innocente and sister Helen A. Davis of Lorain.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte (nee Eberling) in 1961, his second  wife Lillian (nee Nagy) in 2008, parents Pasquale and Pauline (nee Cane) D’Innocente, and sister Margaret Todarello.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Tuesday August 21st from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of St. Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria.
