Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Patricia Merrick, (nee O’Brien), age 86, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice in the early morning hours of Saturday October 27th , 2018 following a brief illness. Born in Liverpool, England on April 7, 1932, Mrs. Merrick came to the United States in the mid 1950’s and had been a resident of Lorain since 1978 moving from Sheffield Lake.

She was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish. Pat had been employed at the church for a period of seven years when it was known as St. John Roman Catholic Church serving in the parish school as custodian, and later, as kitchen manager.

In her free time she enjoyed both domestic and world travel. Additional interests included solving crossword puzzles, playing bingo with her best friend Cookie, going on casino junkets, and attempts as mastering the game Poco.

She is survived by her husband of forty-six years Frank, sons Keith Kelser (Lori) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Garry Kelser of Kokomo, Indiana, Paul Merrick of Elyria, step-son Douglas Merrick of Woodsfield, Ohio and daughters Denise Burgett of Elyria, Leslie Borg of Lorain, and Lynne Figueroa (Ben) of Riverview, Florida. She also leaves twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her son Michael Kelser, parents Michael and Rosie (nee Barber) O’Brien, brothers John Giblin, Harry O’Brien, Tom O’Brien, Martin O’Brien, Dennis O’Brien, and sisters Ellen Evans and Mary.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 noon in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
