Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Carol Ann Hreha (nee Ferner), 81, of Amherst, died Sunday December 30, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer at the home of her oldest daughter and surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 1, 1937 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Carol graduated from St. Mary High School in Lorain, attended Lorain County Community College in Elyria and the University of Akron and earned a Bachelor Degree of Nursing.  She became a Registered Nurse and worked in Oncology at Lorain Community Hospital.  She also was a Clinical Instructor of Nursing at Lorain County Community College before retiring.

Carol served as a Girl Scout leader with Erie Shores Girl Scouts for many years.  She volunteered at the Lorain County Free Clinic and the Irish Nationality booth at the Lorain International Festival where she baked different pastries for sale.  She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, baking and making stained glass.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain.

She is survived by her children: Radonna (Galen) Brubaker, Michael (Eileen) Hreha, Patricia (John) Tillman, Sandra (William) Whitehead, Timothy Hreha, Dolores (David) Holden & Ryan (Michelle) Hreha; 25 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother Edward (Betty) Ferner and sisters Rosemary Kelley and Deborah Hawthorne.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Andrew Hreha III on June 29, 2015, parents Sebastian & Naomi Ferner (nee Pierce) and brother Tom Ferner.

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Friday January 4th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.  Additional viewing will be held Saturday January 5th from 9:30 am until the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain.  The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
