Daniel B. Walend, 78, of Sheffield Lake, died Tuesday February 9, 2021 at Mercy Health Lorain after a sudden illness.

He was born October 27, 1942 in Elyria and had resided in Sheffield Lake since 1972. 

Dan graduated from Elyria High School.  He worked as a welder at US Steel in Lorain and at General Motors in Brook Park retiring in 2006. 

Dan had great artistic abilities and enjoyed drawing.  He loved wearing his pajama pants, enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and sitting on his front porch where he became known as the “Mayor of Dillewood Ave”.

He was a member of St Jude Catholic Church in Elyria and the UAW Local #1005 in Parma.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Joyce Walend (nee Paukner), children: Daniel Walend of Elyria, Dennis Walend (Michelle) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina and Carrie Walend (Angel Senquiz) of Lorain; grandchildren: Amber Walend (Zach), Brooke Jones, Daniel Walend (Caylin), Dakota Walend, Brandon Cornish (Katie), Ashton Rico (Adrian), Kaytlin Rivas (Merari), Angel Senquiz (Alexis), Jacob Senquiz, Joshua Senquiz and David Champion (Katie); 21 great grandchildren, brother James Walend and sister Joyce Moore (Roger).  He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard & Josephine Walend (nee Zlatkowski).

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Friday February 12, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.   All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and follow COVID-19 social distancing guidelines displayed at the funeral chapel entrance and throughout the building.  Cremation will follow and his ashes will be buried in a private family ceremony at St Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
