Joan M. Bellisario (nee Matysiak), 89, of Lorain, died Sunday October 10, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain.

She was born October 5, 1932 in Lorain and lived in Avon Lake for 40 years before moving back to Lorain to be near her family.

Joan graduated from Lorain High School in 1950.  She married the love of her life her husband Jack on February 7, 1953. 

Joan worked at Lorain National Bank as the Branch Manager of the West Park branch retiring after 36 years.  She was a member of the Zonta Club of Lorain, Amherst Business and Professional Women’s Club, St Peter Parish in Lorain for the past 5 years and St Joseph Catholic Church in Avon Lake for 40 years.  She also served on the Finance Committee at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain.

She was happiest being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling through Europe, the United States and Canada and was an avid reader.  She spent many winters with her husband Jack in Tucson, Arizona. 

She is survived by her children: Stephanie Michalski (Richard) of Lorain, Marc Bellisario (Lorri) of Cincinnati and John Bellisario (Chris) of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren: Jennifer Hans (Scott), Holly Doyle (James), Matthew Michalski (Lexy), John Michael Bellisario (Alyssa) & Joshua Bellisario; great grandchildren: Drew, Zac & Mason Hans, Jacob Jarvis, Jordyn Kuzmik, Noah Doyle, Isabella & Jack Michalski, Grayson, Aubree, Kylee & Liam Bellisario; sister Patricia Bajcer (Donald) of Sheffield Village, sister-in-law Donna Bellisario of Avon Lake and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Bellisario in 2000, parents Andrew & Emelia Matysiak (nee Jarzmbowski), grandson Edward Bellisario in 2021, sister Margaret Saylor and brother Ralph Matysiak.

The family would like to thank the staff at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain and Mercy New Life Hospice for the compassionate care and attention they provided to Joan in her last days.

Funeral Schedule

The family will receive friends Thursday October 14, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain and on Friday October 15, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain.  The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will preside.  Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
