Gluvna Shimo Hromada

Mildred “Mitzi” Staskiews (nee Dudukovich) of Lorain passed away on Thursday November 11, 2021 at the age of 101 in Avon, Ohio.

She was born on September 27, 1920 in Lorain and lived there her entire life.  She attended Lorain High School and later served with the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services) during World War II.  After the war, and working at General Industries in Elyria, she met her future husband, Albert. Later, she worked for many years and retired from Fashion Barn, a clothing store, at Oakwood Shopping Center.

She was a lifelong member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and was a woman of great faith.  She sang in the church choir, served as secretary of the Mother’s Club, treasurer of Carica Milica Circle of Serbian Women, and bowled on the church league team.  Mildred enjoyed singing, listening to music and playing board games.  She also treated her family to delicious ethnic meals and desserts.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen Kowalski and Alexis Edleman (Drew) of North Ridgeville; grandsons Mathew Kowalski (Amanda) of Columbus, Jason Edleman (Kristina) of Strongsville, and her two great grandchildren, Merrill and Clara Edleman.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Albert Staskiews in 2007, her parents Mileta and Milka (nee Devich) Dudukovich, brothers Michael and George Dudukovich, and sisters Sophie Simerick and Delores Kulics.

The family would like to thank the staff of Avon Oaks Caring Community for all the caring and compassion they displayed while Mildred was in their care.
