Janice E. Molnar, (nee Phelps), age 85, of Lorain, passed away at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home on the afternoon of Saturday November 20, 2021 following an illness of three years. Born in Cleveland on November 9, 1936, Janice was a resident of Lorain since 1952.

She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Molnar’s Auto Body Shop which had been operated by her late husband for more than forty years in south Lorain. Janice formerly worked in the dietary department at Golden Acres Nursing Home as well as a monitor at Garfield Elementary School.

She was a member of the Lorain Hungarian Reformed Church where she formerly taught Sunday school for a number of years. Janice enjoyed taking care of herself with personal wellness and natural nutrition. An accomplished jewelry artisan, she sold her creations locally through jewelry shows as well as via a long-standing table display at the Lorain Brown Derby Restaurant. In her remaining free time, she also enjoyed photography.

Janice is survived by her sister Mariann Carpenter of Lorain and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her by husband Bert in 1995, parents Garland and Irene (nee McIntire) Phelps, brother James Phelps, sister Geraldine Cock, half sisters Fleda, Kathleen, and Betty, and half brother Bud.

Funeral Schedule

Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Minister Albert Phelps representing The River Nazarene Church presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
