John Ivan, age 87, of Lorain, passed away at the Avon Place Care Center on the evening of January 16th, 2018 . Born in Lorain on June 16, 1930, A graduate of Lorain High School, John had been a life-long resident of the city.  

A veteran of the United States Army, he was formerly employed as a foreman at the United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works; he retired in 1983 following a career that spanned thirty-five years with the steel producer.

Mr. Ivan was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain and was also a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship. John was an accomplished wood craftsman who also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by daughters Diane Charlton, Deborah Flowers, Mary Ivan Garza, and Georgine Ivan all of Lorain, Margaret Swisher of San Antonio, Texas, sons John C. Ivan of Batavia, Ohio, and Michael Ivan of Olmsted Township, fourteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (nee Cisarik) in 2010, daughter Betty Ivan in 2006, parents Juraj and Anna (nee Frelic) Ivan, sister Mary Keron, and grandson Jacob Garza.
