Gerald A. “Jerry” Olah, age 72, of Sheffield Township, passed away at his residence in the early morning hours of Wednesday January 17th, 2018 following an extended illness. Born in Elyria on September 8, 1945, Jerry was a graduate of Elyria High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Sergeant and intelligence analyst during two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Jerry was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a life member of both Amvets Post # 32 and VFW Post # 1079  both in Elyria.

Jerry had most recently been employed as the kitchen supervisor at the Lorain Correctional Institute. Previously, he had worked as a machinist for the Duffin Manufacturing Company in Elyria.

Mr. Olah was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years Diane (nee Pratt), and by daughters Angela Weitzel (Robert), Christine Olah, and Katherine Bowen (Jay) all of Lorain. He also leaves grandchildren Mink Thompson, Draake Thompson, Aleea McConaughey, Kiersten Bowen, Brandon Weitzel, and Oscar Figeroa, and sister Patricia Luka residing in Big Pine, California.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Julius “Pundy” and Julia (nee Spisak) Olah, and sister Jean Olah.
