Willard R.  “Bill” Stevens, age 94, of Lorain, passed away at his residence on the afternoon of Thursday March 1, 2018.  Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1923, Bill had been a resident of Lorain since 1954.



Following his high school graduation he was inducted into the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as Tec 5 attached to the 2nd Field Artillery Observation Battalion in Central Europe during World War II. Bill was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with Five Bronze Stars along with the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; he was a member of American Legion Post # 30 of Lorain.



Mr. Stevens was most recently employed as an assembler at Crown Steel Company in Lorain from which he retired in 1985. He had previously worked in the Blast Furnace Department of U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works; while there, he was a member of United Steelworkers’ Local 1104.



Bill was an accomplished vegetable and flower gardener who truly enjoyed being outdoors. An avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, he also loved spending time with his family and playing computer games.



Survivors include children Patricia Vazquez (Tony), Beverly Stevens, Gregory Stevens, Sandra Stevens-Keene, Marsha Stevens, Michelle D. Lucas (Rick), Dawn Coburn (Erick), and Crystal Stevens all of Lorain, along with nineteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jane Stevens (Nee Fisher) in 1957, second wife Sarah B. “Gayle” Stevens (nee Salisbury) in 2012, grandson Matthew Ray Tummel, and son-in-law Gary Keene.
