Retired Lorain Police Chief John Malinovsky, 91, of Lorain, died Saturday April 7, 2018 at his home after a brief illness.

He was born October 21, 1926 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain.

John graduated from Lorain High School Class of 1944 B and then served with the US Navy during World War II.

John was a 43-year veteran of the Lorain Police Department serving 26 years as Chief of Police.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3 of Lorain.  He enjoyed yardwork, reading, pets trips to Las Vegas and casino gambling.  He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

He is survived by his daughter Janice Malinovsky, sister Mary Jane Wallace and two nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Josephine Malinovsky (nee Estrada) on March 14, 2016, daughter Deborah K. Malinovsky on December 16, 1974, parents John & Julia Malinovsky (nee Stenco) and sister Jenny Hines.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Mercy New Life Hospice for the care given to John.  They would also like to thank the Lorain Police Honor Guard for standing honor guard and serving as pallbearers during the funeral.
