Theresa Rose Sedano died Friday July 13, 2018 at the age of 101 having recently celebrated her birthday. She was born in Brownsville Pennsylvania on May 30, 1917 to Carmella & Sabato Sedano. Her father passed away in a coal mining accident when Theresa was a toddler leaving her mother and two brothers.  Her mother met and married Guiseppe DiLuciano who lovingly cared and provided for his new family.  Theresa was blessed with an additional 12 sisters and brothers.  The family moved to Lorain in Theresa’s elementary years and resided in the South Lorain in the Grove/Seneca Avenue neighborhood until the mid-1960’s.

As the eldest of 15 children, Theresa spent much of her young life as the “big sister”, ensuring that her siblings were well cared for, loved and happy.  She selflessly supported her mother and father’s task of rearing such a large family.

Very early in her life, Theresa began her Faith Journey and was a very devout practicing Roman Catholic attending daily Mass and regularly receiving the Sacraments for 85+ years.  During her life she was a Registered Member/Active Parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Lorain, St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria and, for the past 30 years, St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, where she was welcomed, loved, and supported by clergy, staff, and fellow parishioners. Worshiping, praising, glorifying and loving God her Father, His Son our Lord Jesus Christ and Mary, His Mother, were priorities each day for Theresa as was the Christ-like way she interacted with family, siblings, friends and whomever she encountered. She had an often soft but unmistakable positive presence of goodness, sweetness, innocence and God that routinely emanated from her.

Theresa is survived by her sisters Sophie Toth of Sheffield Lake and Julie DiLuciano of Lorain, her brother-in-law Tony Rodgers of Lorain and sister-in-law Mary Sedano of Lorain, as well as special nephews, nieces and friends. Theresa was preceded in death by her siblings Angelo Sedano, Samuel Sedano, Ann Amato, Carmina Saporito, Katy Sklarek, Tony DiLuciano, Betty Patralja, Dee Rodgers, Gloria Holtwick, Dick DiLuciano and infant twin brothers Richard & Robert DiLuciano, sisters-in-law Betty Sedano and Eva DiLuciano and brothers-in-law Elmer Toth, Rudy Amato, Joseph Saporito, Joe Sklarek and Bob Holtwick.

A very special thank you to the many caregivers and staff at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, her roommate and friend Glenna Bates, other residents and church ministries affiliated with the nursing home. Their love, friendship, attentive care and dedication to Theresa’s health, comfort, happiness and spirituality over the past 10 years has been a treasured blessing.
